- Drill at least 3 holes in the bottom of your planter. This will help with drainage, keep your pots from developing mold and mildew and help your herbs to avoid root rot.
- Place your plater on the cement blocks in your chosen spot. This keeps the wooden planter from sitting in drained water.
- Cover the bottom of the planter with river rocks. This is another added step to ensure that excess water can successfully drain out.
- Add in a layer of potting soil and using your hands, mix it until the rocks are dispersed throughout the soil. Add more potting soil on top, until the container is about 1/3 full.
- Add in a layer of garden soil and use your hands to mix. Then finish it off with one more layer of potting soil.
- Plant your herbs according to the amount of space and depth that they need. This information can generally be found on the tag when you purchase it.
- Water generously. Make sure that soil says moist for the first 2-3 weeks of watering. You don't want the seedlings to dry out before they take root.
- Cover with chicken wire (to keep out the squirrels and birds) and watch your herbs grow!
